Toyota joined Tesla in developing autopilot technology using low-cost cameras.

On April 7, Toyota is speeding up the research and development of self-driving technology.
According to foreign media reports, Toyota's Woven Planet has joined Tesla in trying to promote self-driving technology without using expensive sensors such as lidar.

Woven Planet told the media that the company can collect data with low-cost cameras and effectively train its autopilot system.
They hope that this breakthrough will help reduce costs and expand the scale of technology landing.

The company says using a large number of cars to collect different driving data is critical to developing a powerful self-driving car system, but testing self-driving cars with expensive sensors is too expensive and cannot be tested on a large scale.

It is understood that prior to this, foreign media revealed that Toyota is developing self-driving technology without lidar.

At the same time, Toyota recently announced a major breakthrough and update of the latest autopilot system Teammate, adding more advanced automatic steering, automatic lane change, advanced driving, advanced parking and other functions.

At present, Teammate's advanced driving is classified as Level 2 by SAE, that is, "allows the driver to drive without having to hold the steering wheel in certain conditions, but only needs to pay attention to the road conditions at all times", which is consistent with Tesla's self-driving level and can alleviate the driver's fatigue driving to a certain extent.
